HVAC DESIGN OPTIMISATION WITH CFD
Explore the options.
Find a better flow.
Turn airflow analysis into a practical design process. Compare ventilation scenarios, question your first layout and refine the decisions that shape air distribution.
Discuss your designDESIGNER-LED OPTIMISATION
Change a decision.
Understand its effect.
Optimisation starts with a clear question, a baseline and a fair comparison.
Climoptix lets you organise alternative simulations around the same building. Explore different supply and extract arrangements or flow-rate settings, then review the supported results to inform your next iteration.
Keeping changes deliberate helps separate the effect of a design choice from differences in geometry, mesh or modelling assumptions. The aim is an informed improvement against your project objectives, with the reasoning visible.
No universal percentage improvement is promised. The outcome depends on the building, operating conditions, constraints and quality of the simulation.
A REPEATABLE DESIGN LOOP
Baseline. Compare.
Refine. Repeat.
- 01
Define the objective
Choose the airflow question: distribution in an occupied area, a recirculating region or the effect of a vent location.
- 02
Establish a baseline
Prepare a representative building and ventilation setup. Review the inputs and supported solver conditions.
- 03
Explore alternatives
Duplicate a study and change selected design inputs. Keep the rest of the comparison consistent.
- 04
Inspect & decide
Compare available results with slices and probes. Review numerical evidence and constraints before choosing a direction.
THE NEXT CHAPTER
Towards automated
vent-position optimisation.
A considered roadmap, grounded in solver validation.
Climoptix includes preparation for vent-position studies: selecting existing devices, defining movement bounds, capturing a baseline and validating study settings.
Automatic adjoint optimisation
Automated execution, CFD sensitivity gradients, accepted optimisation steps and applying a best design are not currently available. These require a validated solver and boundary treatment before release.
OPTIMISATION, EXPLAINED
Know what
you’re comparing.
Is this an automatic HVAC optimiser?
The current workflow is designer-led: prepare alternatives, run supported studies and inspect their results. Adjoint study preparation is present, but an automatic optimisation solver is not available to execute.
Can I compare different vent positions?
Yes. You can prepare separate simulation scenarios with different supply and extract locations and compare available results. Each scenario still needs valid geometry, compatible settings and a supported worker.
Will CFD guarantee energy savings or comfort compliance?
No. Airflow results can inform design decisions, but they do not by themselves establish annual energy use, thermal comfort compliance or guaranteed savings. Those conclusions require the appropriate physics, inputs and validation.
